On the one hand, pesticide use has tripled which-combined with an ageing population-explains the fast growth of Parkinson on the African continent. It is astonishing to see that toxic pesticides that have long been banned in western countries are still used here ….

On the other hand, the very same pesticides have reduced infections and increased crop yield, helping to fight famine in Africa.
We also describe the remarkable observations of expert neurologists such as dr Marieke Dekker and dr William Howlett who have never seen Parkinson in hunter-gatherer populations in Tanzania, such as the Hadzabe who still live according to old traditions – no farming so presumably little exposure to pesticides, and lots of physical activity which also reduces the risk of Parkinson. More research needed here!
